St. Mary's National School
Saint Mary’s National School Fairview is situated at the edge of the North Inner City in Dublin. It is tucked away at the bottom of Philipsburgh Avenue in Fairview.
There are approximately 250 pupils on roll. The students comprise boys and girls up to first class and girls only up to sixth.
St. Mary's operates an inclusive policy for all their children with special needs. Children spend the majority of their time in their regular classroom. Their support teacher or the class teacher sometimes works with the children in the classroom and sometimes continues this work in the support/resource/special room.
The staff comprises nineteen teachers made up of Class Teachers and a Learning Support Team. (International Student Teachers, Learning Support and Resource Teachers and a Special Class Teacher).There is a visiting Dance and Drama teacher.
Saint Mary’s Fairview is:
- Participating in the Inclusive Learning Through Technology Project (ILT4). This year third, fourth, sixth and the Resource Unit are participating partners in the use of Lateral Thinking Skills, Modern Technology and inclusion of all students with the Central Remedial Clinic School, Saint Gabriel’s Special School and Saint Tiernan’s Community School.
- Part of the Dublin Inner City Computerisation Project (D.I.S.C.) Project. The ongoing D.I.S.C. Projects are Lego and Clay Animation. In 2006 the School participated in the Lego Mindstorm’s Project.
- Part of the Language Initiative Programme with French being taught to fifth and sixth classes.
- Participating (second, third and fourth classes) in the Discover Primary Science Award of Excellence.
