Policy Issues

A key element of the project is to collaborate with national policy makers in Ireland. One of the main players in this field is the NCCA (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment). The following are a number of statements made by the NCCA in a recent document which emphasize some of the core points that the ILT project achieved in its first year.

"Development in learning theory, such as multiple intelligence and research on learning styles have led to a move away from a ni-dimensional view of how people learn, to a realisation that individual differences in learning capacities extends across the entire range of students, rather than viewing some students as ABLE and some as LESS ABLE."

"In attempting to cater for a broad range of individual difference, the teacher is encouraged to utilise a broad range of teaching strategies and approaches, as well as a variety of visual, audio and kinaesthetic learning resources."

"All students will leave school as capable and independent learners, able to use ICT confidently, creatively and productively, able to communicate effectively, able to work collaboratively, and to critically evaluate, manage and use information."
